Hibner-Ekpete Reception at Texas Discovery Gardens is a Vision in Fuschia and Tangerine... with a Wall Wash Color Change Midway Through the Evening

Congratulations to beautiful bride Kristin Hibner and her charming and handsome groom Tonbara Ekpete on the occasion of their wedding - which was followed by a stunning reception in the Grand Hall at Texas Discovery Gardens. Held over the Memorial Day Holiday weekend, this was one of the most beautiful we have helped produce in 2014.

With a vibrant color scheme of fuschia and tangerine, the reception "popped" all night long. With a start time of 5 pm, arriving guests were treated to a cornucopia of color from the vibrant linens chosen by the couple with the assistance of noted Wedding Planner Kay Watson. The newlyweds enjoyed their first dance set against a daylight backdrop of Texas Discovery Gardens. As the evening continued and daylight faded, the colors transformed and deepened... with a special surprise planned for guests midway through the evening. Dallas Light and Sound changed the uplightng color in the room from a brilliant fuschia to a deep tangerine, completely transforming the visual palette for the space.

Services provided for this reception included eco friendly, color changing LED uplighting, dancefloor lighting, projection of the names of the bride and groom, cake lighting and head table lighting for toasts and speeches, and provision of a flatscreen in the "children's room" to entertain young guests.

The names projection included four different designs, and was comprised of the signature font of the wedding invitation, in a custom design by Dallas Light and Sound Event Manager Neale Jones. Examples of all four looks can be seen in the gallery below.

Jonathan's Place Presents "A Chance to Soar" at Brook Hollow Golf Club - DeMarcus Ware Honored

Enthusiasm for the cause was flying high at Brook Hollow Golf Club when Jonathan's Place welcomed actress, author and adoption advocate Nia Vardalos and former Dallas Cowboy DeMarcus Ware to "A Chance To Soar". A capacity crowd filled Brook Hollow's formal dining room on April 19th as patron's turned out to show their support for this wonderful organization that provides a safe, loving home and specialized services to children who have been abused, abandoned or neglected.

Dallas Light and Sound is proud to have been selected by Jonathan's Place to provide audio, video projection, stage design and lighting for "A Chance to Soar."

It's a capacity crowd at Brook Hollow Golf Club for "A Chance to Soar", presented by Jonathan's Place.
Former Dallas Cowboy  DeMarcus Ware and his former wife adopted their daughter Marley
after three failed pregnancies.  DeMarcus has been involved with Jonathan’s Place since 2006.
Jonathan's Place chose Ware as their 2014 honoree at "A Chance to Soar" for his continued support of the organization.

Keynote speaker, actress and adoption advocate Nia Vardalos Nia connected with everyone in the room
thanks to humorous tales and heart-wrenching memories of adopting her daughter Ilaria in 2008.
Interested parties can read more about Nia's journey as an adoptive parent in her book "Instant Mom".

Ware had this to say about Jonathan's Place.  “I’m a big advocate of giving people a second chance because of my little daughter. I adopted her from birth and she’s been a big blessing to me from a lot of the devastating things that have happened to me with pregnancies that happened to my ex-wife. It’s all about giving people second chances and giving them opportunities they never had."

“At Jonathan’s Place, they shelter, they mentor and they get kids from newborn all the way to 17 years old back to the stage where they can go back into society and feel comfortable, so that’s the reason why I’m a big advocate of what they’re doing and I’ve seen how they’ve progressed through the years and it’s been great.”

Congratulations to Jonathan's Place on producing such a successful event. To see additonal images from "A Chance to Soar" visit the Dallas Light and Sound Facebook Photos pages at...

Sugar City Sweeets and Celebrations
It was an icy blue night under the stars at Texas Discovery Gardens for the Irma Lerma Rangel School Senior Prom. Lighting and audio and projection by Dallas Light and Sound. It was a joy working with these young ladies as they planned their biggest night of the year.

Pinspot lighting from Dallas Light and Sound focused on the dessert tables added to the ambiance and appeal of Sugar City's stunning presentation.

Dallas Light and Sound welcomed the DJ for the evening with a full compliment of nightclub audio. Frequently we prepare an audio system for outside an outside DJ who shows up to an event and plugs into our sound system - and the Rangel School Prom was another example of successful audio collaboration.

The Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School is the first all girls’ public school in Texas. Their mission is to provide young ladies in grades six through 12 with a global education that emphasizes mathematics, science, and technology in a rigorous pre-Advanced Placement academic environment. Rangel School ensures that their young ladies have the skills and knowledge needed to graduate from a four-year college institution. Leadership makes the difference as students give back in their communities through required volunteer service and summer institute programs.

The staff at Rangel School are dedicated to preparing young ladies to compete in a global society. Teachers are trained through College Board programs, receive 24-hours of advanced technology training, and attend national and international training sessions to provide students with cutting-edge innovations and the best practices in education. Faculty and staff have high expectations of each young lady in the classroom and beyond as students thrive through their participation in extracurricular activities, including Choir, Hand Bells, UIL, Lacrosse, Robotics, Mock Trail, Debate and Academic Decathlon.

Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School graduated its first class in 2009 and continues to serve its motto: Girls Today. Women Tomorrow. Leaders Forever.

Services provided by Dallas Light and Sound for this action packed event included nightclub quality audio, uplighting, dancefloor lighting, food lighting, stage lighting and monogram creation and projection.

Dallas Urban Debate Alliance 5th Annual Awards Gala held at Jim Lee's Starlight Room

Dallas Urban Debate Alliance celebrated their students, coaches and volunteers during the organization's Fifth Annual Awards Gala on Friday, May 9th at Jim Lee's Starlight Room in Downtown Dallas. The organization turned to Dallas Light and Sound for production expertise for the event. Thank you for this opportunity to work for an organization that supports such a great group of kids.

The support of patrons at the gala not only allowed the organization to showcase the achievements of students, but also helped raise the necessary resources to expand the program to the many Dallas ISD students and schools currently on the group's waitlist. Harriet Miers, Dallas Urban Debate volunteer and notable attorney, served as keynote speaker at the event.

Dallas Urban Debate Alliance has a proven track record of delivering outstanding academic opportunities to public school students in Dallas. Here’s Dallas Urban Debate by the numbers:
Urban Alliance Debaters
show their medals following
a debate tournament in March
  • Debate is making a difference for kids in our community: About 1,000 DISD students were touched by debate programming this school year (2013-14).
  • At Dallas ISD’s request, the Dallas Urban Debate continues to grow and now has 24 high schools and 15 middle schools in the program, a 30% increase over last year. Dallas Urban Debate was named the 2012 Outstanding League of the year out of 20 other cities!
  • Through February alone, Dallas Urban Debate has facilitated over 3,000 debate rounds this school year. Each of these one to two-hour debate rounds is a high level discussion of the effects of US economic policies in Latin America.
  • Over 80% of Dallas urban debaters are students of color and over 70% are economically disadvantaged. The large majority of urban debaters have parents who did not attend college and peers who will not graduate from high school.
  • Multiple peer-reviewed studies have shown that debate increases student academic performance. How? Participation in an urban debate program increases literacy scores, increases grade-point averages and increases high school graduation rates. Debaters are also three times less likely to engage in high-risk behavior as compared to their peers.
