500 Teddy Bears and $15,000 Raised, The Teddy Bear Party Supports Three Organizations During the Holidays

A vacant retail space.... transformed into an event
venue with a holiday themed DJ booth from
Dallas Light and Sound.
With more than 450 attendees, a terrific Host Committee under the leadership of Jason Hanna and Joe Rigs came together earlier this month to present the 2013 edition of The Teddy Bear Party. The event took place in an empty retail space at the Davis Building in Downtown Dallas and was designed to provide support to three worthy organizations. Dallas Light and Sound was honored to provide production and event design services, lighting, lounge furniture, video projection, flatscreens, linens and holiday themed décor for this exclusive, invitation only gathering.

The space at the Davis Building before
DLS works our magic...

Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, Stand Up 2 Cancer, and the Family Equality Council were the beneficiaries of the event. In addition to collecting cash donations at the door and in advance of the event, a requirement for entry to The Teddy Bear Party serves as the inspiration for the name of the event. Patrons are required to bring a teddy bear to the party to assure admission, and bring bears they did. On the Sunday morning following the event, Teddy Bear event hosts traveled to Children’s Medical Center of Dallas and presented more than 500 teddy bears to the hospital for distribution to patients.

Dallas Light and Sound collaborated with legendary designer
Mark Clay to create a winter wonderland on the lower level
of the Davis Building for the Teddy Bear Party.
In addition to collecting more than 500 Teddy Bears, total funds raised between ticket sales and additional donations topped $15,000! These donations will be split 50/50 between Family Equality Council and Stand Up 2 Cancer. The Host Committee raised 100% of the funds necessary and resources to produce the event from private individuals and area businesses, which assured that 100% of ticket sales and other cash donations would go directly to the beneficiaries. Event underwriters included Gary McDonald, Steve Rahhal, Mike Richardson, Julio Gonzalez, Bryan Carr, Mark Le, Mark Clay, Joe Riggs, Ben E Keith Distributing, and The Bascom Goup.

Stand Up 2 Cancer, which is groundbreaking initiative created to accelerate innovative cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now.  The host committee will make their donation in honor of those currently battling cancer and in memory of all of our loved ones that have lost their battle.
Family Equality Council is the second cash beneficiary, and is an organization that connects, supports, and represents the estimated three million parents who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender in the United States and their six million children. FEC works to change attitudes and policies to ensure that all families are respected, loved, and celebrated—including families with parents who are LGBT.

The talented DJ Brandon Moses burned the house down an incredible selection of dance hits, with Bar X providing service staff for the event. Ben E Keith contributed beer & wine for the evening.
In addition to designing and supplying a sexy and sleek look in holiday red for the upstairs space, Dallas Light and Sound collaborated with Dallas design legend Mark Clay to create a winter wonderland downstairs! The Bascom Group supplied the space in the historic Davis Building for the event.

Congratulations to The Teddy Bear Party Host Committee for making a difference in our community!

5th Annual MADI Museum Geometric Gala set for Friday in the Design District

Sue and Frank Tortoriello, Honorary Co-Chairs, and the MADI Board invite you to join them at the 5TH ANNUAL GEOMETRIC GALA on Friday, October 12, 2012 from 7 - 10 pm at 145 Manufacturing Street in the Design District.  The evening will include the award-winning Texas Gypsies with wine and hors d'oevres provided by Doug Boster Gourmet Catering and MADItinis courtesy of Dripping Springs Vodka. A silent auction of luxury items and original art by local and international artists helps support the museum’s exhibits and programming. Dallas Light and Sound is transforming what is essentially a vacant showroom into a tastefully lit event venue.

Gala tickets are $80 per person and $90 at the door. Again this year, Dallas’ own geometric artist, Ricardo Paniagua has donated one of his fabulous sculptures for our raffle. Tickets for the raffle are $20 for one or $100 for six and you need not attend the Gala to win.
This is a landmark year for the Museum of Geometric & MADI Art, as they are celebrating their 10th Anniversary.  Over the last decade, the Museum of Geometric & MADI Art has worked diligently to bring this contemporary and unique genre of art to the Dallas art community.  With the help of their board and loyal members, the 2013 Geometric Gala, to be held on October 11, 2013, promises to be our biggest and best! The Geometric Gala 2013 will go down in the history books for the Museum of Geometric & MADI Art as they boldly chart new waters.

This event represents milestone for the organization. Continued growth coupled with previous gala successes, have necessitated a move of their annual Gala from the MADI to larger event space, in order to accommodate our passionate patrons!  This year the Geometric Gala will be held at 145 Manufacturing Street in the Design District, just a hop, skip and a jump from MADI's proposed future new site!

Valet parking will be provided by Preferred Parking DFW.

Two Stages at Razzle Dazzle Dallas Provide Diverse Entertainment in Main Street Garden

Razzle Dazzle Dallas took over Downtown Dallas's Main Street Garden Park for a rousing celebration and festival of entertainment on Saturday, June 8th - and Dallas Light and Sound was there with audio, lighting, staging and flatscreens for sponsor recognition.

With two stages for entertainment, one located on each side of the park, the Razzle Dazzle committee event producers provided two showcases for their cavalcade of diverse entertainment for event attendees. Featuring three sets in a festival spanning performance by "The Bright" on the Bud Light Main Stage, the evening also included The Women's Chorus and The Turtle Creek Chorale on the community stage. A  hi-nrg performance from the Rose Room Girls, a flash mob photo event directed by emcee Patti Le Plaesafe, soloists, a country duet, a comic, and a DJ at the Red Bull DJ pavilion meant the evening was chock full of ever-changing entertainment.

On The Bud Light Main Stage, Dallas Light and Sound provided large format audio and a custom lighting design and installation that captivated the crowd. With color changing LED Panels and an array of LED and conventional Par cans, intelligent lighting on truss, and ample fog... the lighting for this performance stage enhanced the energy present on the stage. Audio on the main stage was anchored by a 24 channel Behringer mixing board with dual on-board vocal effects, an amplifier array, and major speaker arrays flanking the stage.

Meanwhile on the Community Stage on the opposite end of Main Street Garden, showstopping performances included the Rose Room Girls and the Turtle Creek Chorale. Members of The Chorale entertained the crowd with their voices captured by an array of Audio Technica condenser mics, allowing the group to perform with crowding around traditional hand-held mics. Lighting for the Community Stage came from two truss towers, strategically positioned to flank the stage and cross light the performance area.

The old Statler Hotel and numerous other buildings provided a beautiful backdrop for the night. The Statler also served as a surface for gobo projections that appeared as the highlight of a media photography event, shown below. With the Red Bull Pagoda anchoring the center of the park space, and a VIP Lounge sponsored by Kru vodka, event attendees had plenty of focal points to fill the 5+ hours of Razzle Dazzle.
