Dior Beauty in Highland Park Village Celebrates First Anniversary with Red Carpet Reception

The Dior Beauty Highland Park team on
the red carpet at their first anniversary event.
Friday, December 9th saw Dior Beauty at Highland Park Village celebrate their first anniversary... and Dallas Light and Sound was there to assist with the festivities.  As the sun set on a crisp December evening, we rolled out the red carpet for patrons who entered to find champagne and other beverages including hot cocoa, all served from behind one of our lighted bars. Spandex covered highboys from DLS topped with mirrors helped showcase signature florals and Christian Dior branding icons that were strategically placed throughout the event.

A Dallas Light and Sound black and white tent sheltered guests from the chill while they enjoyed custom Dior cookies and other nibbles. The tent coupled with heavyweight velour pipe and drape from DLS created a couryard in front of the store for a guest DJ who spun contemporary dance music all night to an appreciative crowd. Stylish outdoor heaters in the courtyard warmed party goers who posed on the red carpet and in front of a Christian Dior step and repeat.

This jewelbox destination for the Dior cosmetics brand is smaller than some master closets in Highland Park ... yet provides a sumptuous shopping experience for perfumes, cosmetics, skin creams and more. To reinforce in-store branding, Dallas Light and Sound installed three flatscreens elevated to above eye level with spandex covered trussing. Flatscreens placed at the DLS red carpet entrance, under the tent and in the courtyard played gorgeous Dior promotional videos continuously throughout the event.

A special thank you to D'Onna Winn and to Christian Iles who chose Dallas Light and Sound to provide production resources for this Christian Dior luxury experience.

Wedding Reception at Union Statton Made Memorable with Lighting and Audio from Dallas Light and Sound

When Deiadra Burns and Amanda Minkler decided to plan their wedding and reception, they chose one of the grandest venues in Dallas for the reception - Union Station. Completed in 1916 as a masterpiece of Beaux-Arts Classicism, Union Station is a testament to the grand experience of life — an artful marriage of architectural details and monumental proportions that both inspires and uplifts. Stately pillars instill a spirit of grandeur on the second floor verandah that spans the width of the building. Graceful arched windows soar beneath 48-foot ceilings. Original chandeliers echo the refined spirit of a bygone era.

Café Lighting Across the dancefloor from Dallas Light and Sound
added a touch of warmth and whimsy to Union Station.
As one of the most classically elegant venues for events and receptions in DFW, Union Station is widely considered to be one of the Grand Dames of Dallas for event professionals. As such it presents certain challenges. The event spaces at the facility are on the second floor of the building, with only a tiny passenger elevator available to transport everything needed for an event upstairs. Acoustically, the 45 foot ceilings that lend so much to the main ballroom’s grandeur create an opportunity for substantial echo. Our familiarity with the building meant that DLS came prepared to bring the space to life and to create a beautiful memory for the wedding party and their guests.

For Deiadra and Amanda's reception, Dallas Light and Sound designed a lighting installation that focused on the building’s architectural strengths. We supplemented that design with controllable midway lighting over the dancefloor at the request of the wedding planners. Working with Jarrod Freeman who coordinated our installation with the event planners, DLS provided LED uplighting for the room that was wirelessly controllable. Several of the images in this album show the exact same perspective of the main ballroom, with the room lighted in different hues. Dancefloor lighting with high energy advanced LED moving head fixtures worked all night to keep the dancefloor packed. Midway lighting suspended over the dancefloor provided a warm ambiance for slower dances, and a custom Texas A&M logo on the ceiling topped of the night during a rendition of the Aggies Fight Song.

In a custom audio design for this event, a combination of wedge and square speakers positioned at ideal points on an elevated stage meant that the dancefloor was jumping all night, and guests were able to both hear and understand announcements and speeches. This October wedding featured an outside DJ and with extensive experience in working with different DJ equipment, the connection for DJ Mark Seebaran went smoothly.

Thank you to Deiadra and Amanda for choosing Dallas Light and Sound to assist in creating a magical experience at Union Station. To consider Dallas Light and Sound as an audio, lighting or video vendor for your next Union Station event, call 214-943-4238 or email info@dallaslightandsound.com.

After Black the Black Tie Dinner 2016 Official Afterparty Closes The Night with a High Energy Nightclub Experience from Dallas Light and Sound

A custom Dj booth and nightclub lighting installation from
Dallas Light and Sound for
After Black - the official Black Tie Dinner 2016 Afterparty
With more than three decades of history fueling enthusiasm and attendance, on Saturday, October 1st, Black Tie Dinner presented a blow-out bash at the Sheraton in Downtown Dallas. More than 3000 guests and volunteers celebrated 35 years of philanthropy by the organization with a memorable program of inspiration, recognition and entertainment. Titled “Believe in the Art of Equality”, a gorgeous crowd arrived ready to toast the success of one of the nation’s preeminent galas. Not only is Black Tie Dinner the largest and most successful seated dinner in the nation that supports the work of the Human Rights Campaign Fund, it also raises funds for a host of local, community organizations. The 2016 Black Tie Dinner featured Kuchling Award Winner Dr. Steven Pounders, Olympian Greg Louganis, actresses Connie Britten and Debra Messing, comedienne Dana Goldberg, entertainer Todrick Hall and the incredible vocals of Deborah Cox.
The incredible Deborah Cox performs one of her
biggest hits "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here" at
After Black - the official Black Tie Dinner 2016 Afterparty.

Dallas Light and Sound provided event production services and resources focused around the event entrance, and the silent auction and after-party areas of the event. With audio, video, lighting and more for Before Back, After Black, and pre and intermission programming, we coordinated our efforts with Jarrod Freeman from the Black Tie Board of Directors and numerous other Board Members and volunteers.

Prior to 2016, the official after-party dubbed "After Black" took place in an area of the host hotel that was separate and apart from the main dinner ballroom and auction space. For 2016, event organizers combined the silent auction space with the after-party and specified a mid-event transformation of the room to provide immediate energy and continued silent auction bidding after the Dinner.

Custom designed and installed intelligent color changing uplighting from Dallas Light and Sound provided a base design palate for our team to build upon. A total of 12 intelligent moving head fixtures, ten flatscreens, six trussing arches, and a custom designed DJ booth from Dallas Light and Sound served as a framework for the afterparty. DLS Dancefloor lighting, hazers, fog cannons, and a killer sound system completed the space to produce a vibrant and memorable After Black. Gobo projectors delivered the “35 Years” branding message on white pipe and drape, on the ceiling and on the dancefloor.

It was an honor to be chosen as a production partner for
After Black - the official Black Tie Dinner 2016 Afterparty
at the organization's 35th dinner.
Grammy Award winning vocalist Deborah Cox graced the after party stage to perform one of her Billboard #1 hits – “Nobody’s Supposed to be Here”. DJ Blacklow was on hand to spin an energetic mix of HiNRG and contemporary dance that kept the crowd on their feet all night. The entire room was thumping and jumping as the Dallas Light and Sound nightclub quality sound system kept party goers in the mood for more beyond Last Call.

This photo album focuses on After Black, the official after-party of Black Tie Dinner, which was presented by John Wright Martin Building + Interiors. For images from Before Black and from during the event, check other albums on facebook at Black Tie Dinner and here at Dallas Light and Sound.

CISDR Celebrates 30 Years of Serving Disadvantanged Students with CIS Soiree 2016

The Grand Hall at Texas Discovery Gardens served as a beautiful
backdrop for CIS Soiree 2016, the 30th Anniversary
Celebration of the work of CISDR.
The Community In Schools Dallas Region (CISDR) organization is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded in 1985 to address the growing number of high school dropouts in Dallas and surrounding areas. Today CISDR operates in 70 schools in nine school districts in Dallas, Collin, and Ellis counties, with over 78% of those students living in poverty and deemed “at-risk” of future failure by the Texas Education Agency.

On Saturday, August 27th a room full of supporters and sponsors converged on the Rosine Smith Butterfly House and the lobby and Grand Hall at Texas Discovery Gardens to sip Garden Mules, bid at silent and live auctions, and enjoy a beautiful dinner with a program of entertainment and information and celebration. The CIS Soiree also served as a 30th Anniversary Celebration for the organization, the evening delivered on its promise to both entertain and fundraise. Dr. Judith Allen-Bazemore, President and CEO of CISDR welcomed guests with Blake D. Lewis III, Chairman of the Board, Soirée Chair Maggie Cooke Kipp, Honorary Chairs Katherine and Key Coker and CISDR Chief Philanthropy Officer, Lisa Loy Laughlin.
Projection services from Dallas Light and Sound convey
event branding at CIS Soiree 2016.
Of special interest in the fundraising part of the evening was a live auction that included items like a signed photo of Olympian gold medal winner Michael Phelps, a violin bass guitar signed by Sir Paul McCartney, and tickets to Hamilton in New York City.

The "Garden Mule" cocktails seemed to help with the merriment (and possibly the fundraising) and were a special creation for the evening. Dubbed the “Moscow Mule of Texas Discovery Gardens” the drinks were served in copper cups and featured a special herbed mixer recipe to compliment the garden setting.

Inspiring presentations were the focus of the program, and included a moving video featured CISDR students who shared their heartfelt personal stories of struggles in family and school. They also discussed achieving success influenced by support from CISDR - not only in education, but also with social and behavioral intervention services.

Dr. Allen-Bazemore reminded everyone that CISDR serves families free of charge. The average cost of serving one child is $500. He reminded the audience of patrons that supporting CISDR has a ripple effect throughout the community, delivering results with long term positive return on investment. Over the last 30 years, CISDR has touched the lives of nearly 250,000 students surrounding them with a community of support and empowering them to stay in school from kindergarten through graduation, and empowering them to achieve success in life. Among results this school year, 96% of students served by CISDR stayed in school and CISDR high school intervention resulted in a 95% graduation rate.
A unique horizontal sponsor reel recognized
sponsors at CIS Soiree 2016.
After the formal program concluded, the video screen rolled up to reveal a DJ who saw to it that the crowd continued their celebration.

Dallas Light and Sound provided audio for the evening in both the Grand Hall and in the Lobby, video projection for the Grand Hall big screen, uplighting in the Grand Hall and in the Lobby, and stage lighting for presenters. We also created a special horizontal sponsor reel for projection on the back wall of the Grand Hall. Thank you to the event organizers for choosing Dallas Light and Sound to provide production services for the event. Impulse Dallas Presents Deck the Hauls

Thank you to Impulse Group Dallas for choosing Dallas Light and Sound as your production resource for the organization's first ever holiday party. Held in the Granite Bar at Station 4, the event saw the space transformed from essentially an empty room into a sexy and sophisticated holiday tableau.

With signature DLS decor elements, lighting, audio, room layout, and a gorgeous photo area under the direction of Dallas Light and Sound, the event proved hugely successful. We deployed lighted trees and table centerpieces, created a food prep table holiday
display, and provided other holiday decor elements from our inventory complimented the red and blue and green color scheme created by DLS for the event. Uplighting provided depth to the space and the photo area, which was anchored by a DLS red carpet and velvet rope installation to compliment the white drape background we installed for the event. With a Santa's chair flanked by DLS lighted trees and lighted box bases, one of the most memorable elements of the event décor sprang from the creative mind of our event designer Craig Canant - a simple red AIDS ribbon which overlayed on the white lighted trees.

Organizers collected more than 200 articles of clothing for Out of the Closet and performed more than 30 on-site HIV tests - with testing a core part of the Impulse Group Dallas misssion. Congratulations to the event organizers on such a successful soiree!

The Teddy Bear Party at the West End Event Center was a smashing success. This image shows one of three
rooms with lighting from Dallas Light and Sound in signature holiday colors. DJ Brandon Moses is shown working
the crowd from a custom designed and installed DJ booth from Dallas Light and Sound.
On Saturday night, December 13th, more than 600 revelers came together for The Teddy Bear Party for an evening of fund, food, great music and charity. One week ago today the event organizers donated 710 teddy bears to Children’s Medical Center - which is 19% more than in 2013! In addition to the teddy bear donation, TBP raised $21,000 for three charities, 30% more than 2013! Charities that will receive the funds are Family Equality Council, Equality Texas and Stand Up 2 Cancer. The event took place at the West End Event Center - a three room venue featuring built in bars and a unique floorplan.

More than 700 Teddy Bears were donated
by attendees at the Teddy Bear Party.
This Teddy bear Tree display is a creation of
Dalls Light and Sound

Dallas Light and Sound returned for our second year to The Teddy Bear Party to provide production services for the event including event planning and design assistance; three rooms of lighting in holiday signature colors of blue, green and red; Christmas décor throughout including 10 brilliant white lighted trees; pipe and drape; and a red carpet stand and repeat experience. DJ Brandon Moses kept the crowd jumping with a sparkling mix of HiNRG dance music. Ben E. Keith, One Bar, and Willa Vodka sponsored all of the beverages for this year's event which featured three separate bars with the finest Bar 10 bartenders. Ophelia’s New Soul Restaurant provided tasty bites for the evening.

Teddy Bear Party Founders and Principal
Organizers Joe Riggs and Jason Hanna
The Teddy Bear Party is organized principally by Jason Hanna and Joe Riggs, with the able assistance of an all-volunteer host committee. The Teddy Bear Party started in 2009 as a small Christmas house party of seventy-five friends who got together, have a few cocktails, laughs, and spread the holiday cheer. The annual event originated as a tree trimming party for the first year but transformed into a toy drive for Toys for Tots the following year.

Event organizers deliver 700
teddy bears to Children's Medical Center

Following the loss of Jason’s mother to cancer, and with the continued expansion in attendance at the event, the scope of the event has expanded considerably. Organizers of the group have sought and received 501C3 non-profit status, have raised a total of $48,750 for area charities, and have donated more than 1,900 Teddy bears to children who are suffering.

Thank you to the event organizers for choosing Dallas Light and Sound for production services again for this year's Teddy Bear Party. Congratulations to April and Best - Newlyweds!

Congratulations to April and Best, our December 6th Bride and Groom who were married in a beautiful ceremony at Texas Discovery Gardens, followed by a stunning reception in the TDG Grand Hall.

The layout for the reception was based on a floorplan designed by Dallas Light and Sound in cooperation with Sugar City Sweets and Celebrations. This intimate reception saw the Grand Hall divided into three separate sections. Utilizing 12 foot tall white pipe and drape from Dallas Light and Sound aligned with columns that are already present in the building, the Grand Hall was transformed for their reception.

The first section comprised approximately 25% of the total space, situated adjacent to the Butterfly House entry door from the gardens, and hosted cocktails following the reception. The central section, comprising 50% of the Grand Hall, was utilized for dinner seating and dancing. A second line of pipe and white drape created the “third” Grand Hall section most close to the kitchen. This third part of the Grand Hall was kept closed until later in the evening when service staff executed a grand reveal for buffet and food station service.

A custom Lounge Furniture installation in the cocktail lounge portion of the Grand Hall provided a welcome place for guests to rest and converse as they sipped their beverages following the ceremony which took place on the Discovery Gardens Circular Lawn. The arrangement of the furniture pieces benefitted from the designer touch of Neale Jones, who oversaw the event for Dallas Light and Sound. All of the furnishings utilized in the design come from our inventory of event furnishings. Guests were treated to a gorgeous view of the bride and groom cakes in this space, with cake lighting from Dallas Light and Sound. The lounge furniture installation looked great both during the daytime, and took on a new level of appeal as the sun fell and up lighting began to wash over the space.

The central dining section featured a bride and groom initial projection and uplighting that changed to a darker and more vivid color as the evening progressed. Texture washes on the proscenium arch spanning the main stage provided a perfect complement to a traditional long head table, which was situated on the stage.

Dancefloor lighting brought the evening to life with both romantic and energetic lighting programmed for the evening by Dallas Light and Sound. The up lighting and texture wash for the evening from Dallas Light and Sound served as a great companion to a visually impressive linens and floral package from Sugar City. Chiavari chairs completed the look.

Separating the room into three sections made the space very intimate and very “special”. We count this TDG wedding among our clear favorites for 2014. April and Best’s vision for their reception represent a compelling designer finish out for the Grand Hall. We recommend considering this approach if less than 125 are seated for dinner.
To find out more about selecting some or all of these features for your reception or party at this beautiful facility, give us a call. Dallas Light and Sound is a preferred vendor at Texas Discovery Gardens.
