DFW Federal Club Transforms Grand Hall at Fair Park into Casino Royale

Visitors to Fair Park earlier this month were treated to special event lighting of the Grand Hall entrance at Texas Discovery Gardens at Fair Park. The facility, rented by the DFW Federal Club for their Annual Holiday Party, underwent a transformation, becoming a sophisticated Monte Carlo style casino. The event, "Casino Royale", brought more than 15 gaming tables, world class entertainment, and delicious food and drinks to Fair Park.

With more than 400 in attendance, the black tie affair was the first casino party for the DFW Federal Club. Dallas Light and Sound provided lighting, decor, video projection and audio for the evening. A performance by local celebrity vocalist Terry Loftis added old world glamour to the evening, with food by Jim Lee Events providing tasty bites for revelers. Seen here are two of the food tables which feature 7+ foot tall holiday themed poinsettia centerpieces designed by Dallas Light and Sound. When placed on the tables, they reached more than 10 feet into the air.

The gaming areas were lighted in brilliant reds and pinks and featured a special projection welcoming guests to gamble. All new "Stylebar" cocktail bars from Dallas Light and Sound made their debut at the event and can be seen in this photo and the photo above. Their stainless look provided an elegant focal point for the corners and back wall of the Grand Hall.

Texas PTA 2011 Statewide Student Awards Ceremony

Students, parents and educators from across Texas came to the Grand Hall at the Texas Discovery Gardens earlier this year to receive statewide honors in a variety of competitive categories. The governing organization for PTA chapters across Texas selected Dallas Light and Sound to provide audio and projection services for their event "Reflections". With four separate sessions of awards, hundreds attended and all could hear the crystal clear audio provided by Dallas Light and Sound. Notice – not a speaker in sight!

Other event production companies might have used speakers on poles to supply audio for this event….. marring sight lines and ruining pictures for awards recipients. NOT Dallas Light and Sound…. Our no-poles approach to audio does the trick every time!
Video projection took place on a motorized screen that is permanently installed in the Grand Hall, as seen in these pictures.

DFW Jingle Mingle at Dallas Contemporary Benefits Dream Fund

Q. What do you get when the members of nine marketing, media, advertising, communication and creative organizations from North Texas gather for a party with a purpose?

 A. The 2011 DFW Jingle Mingle holiday party at the Dallas Contemporary!

Dallas Light and Sound was there on December 1st to provide video projection and uplighting for this hugely successful event. Live posting of tweets about the event kept participants up to the minute in social media. DLS hi-definition projection equipment made those posts larger than life in a gallery space uplit in red and white for the holiday season.

The event benefited the Dream Fund, a media industry charity that steps in to help media professionals when the unexpected happens. For additional information about the 2011 DFW Jingle Mingle including a list of sponsors and participating organizations, visit www.dfwjinglemingle.com.

Paticipants at the event enjoyed noshing on heavy appetizers plus a dessert bar, from Doug Boster Gourmet Catering.

The evening featured an open bar, a raffle benefiting the Dream Fund, with fabulous prizes like a free Chevrolet car loan for a week, hotel packages, sports tickets, restaurant gift cards, and more! Dance tunes from a rockin DJ rounded out the night.

Diamond level sponsor Digital People provided access to a photo booth to create personalized flip books, while Chevrolet underwrote the social media entertainment experience. The Dallas Contemporary served as a stunning and fresh backdrop for the event, with guests invited to visit the galleries at The Contemporary, one of which is currently showing "Nutcrackers" by Jennifer Rubell. The event took place in the west gallery, which is pictured above and which contains numerous works by Aaron Prazette. "North Swell" is the title of this exhibition. Afterglow Attendees Enjoy a Wow Moment - Elegant Lighted Entry Area

Stunning florals by Shane Walker Designs and a lighted, draped entry welcomed Black Tie Dinner guests this November to the "Afterglow Event" - held in the 11th floor Presidential Suite at Sheraton Dallas downtown. Guests enjoyed a "Wow" moment from the instant they opened the suite door and stepped inside. Beautifully uplit sheer drapery created the most successful Afterglow entrance ever in honor of the 30th anniversary of the dinner.

Don Gaiser and 60 of his friends organized Afterglow, which took place following the Federal Club Black Tie Dinner. Event underwriters and select friends were also treated to a preview early in the evening, where they were able to enjoy the suite in relative comfort. North Texas Women's Brunch Addresses School Bullying - State Senator Wendy Davis Speaks

North Texas Women's Brunch Co-Chairs and Organizers
at the front door of the Mascolo Mansion
On June 17, 2011, Texas Governor Perry signed into law House Bill 1942 relating to bullying in public schools.

The passage of this anti-bullying bill was led by women in the Texas House and Senate and was driven in part by the testimony of and lobbying by the mothers of children who committed suicide due to persistent bullying.

Equality Texas helped guide the legislation through the Texas House and Senate as part of their overall mission to promote civil rights for all residents of Texas. To celebrate this victory and to raise awareness of continuing issues surrounding bullying, Equality Texas held a fundraising brunch on October 30th at the M Mansion in Dallas. In an especially touching gesture of appreciation, and to raise awareness of the issue, the mothers of Jon Carmichael and Montana Lance attended. Lance was 9 years old when he hung himself in the restroom at his school in The Colony earlier this year after persistent bullying. Carmichael was 13 years old when he took his life in 2010 after years of bullying related to his height. Carmichael lived in Joshua, Texas.

Dallas Light and Sound was proud to provide decor and audio services for the North Texas Women's Brunch at the M Mansion, sponsored by Equality Texas. State Senator Wendy Davis served as keynote speaker for the event, which focused on accomplishments made in the fight against bullying in schools. The event featured brunch, music, casual modeling and an informative presentation on the work that re.mains to be done to fight bullying.

This pictures above and below show "Soooo Red" linens on highboys with tasteful florals in a view from poolside at The M Mansion. A dozen of these tables dotted the mansion grounds and are shown here leading up to the rear of the beautiful estate. The tables and florals were part of a decor package designed and supplied by Dallas Light and Sound.

Senator Wendy Davis and several other speakers addressed a crowd of more than 100 from the back portico of the M Mansion. Dallas Light and Sound's audio installation allowed the presentation and background music to spill out over the entire grounds, without using speakers mounted on poles which would have distracted from the magnificent view of the mansion. Background music programming for the function was also supplied by Dallas Light and Sound, with an all-woman song selection of vocals and jazz to compliment the extraordinary setting.

Haunted Mansion Halloween in a Crystal Tent for Jim Lee Events

Jim Lee Events, one of the leading event production companies and caterers in Dallas, delivered the premiere Halloween party in Lakewood, and Dallas Light and Sound provided the lighting, audio and decor to make the night special. Inspired by a vision from Jim Lee, DLS event designer Neale Jones and our team turned a beautiful home and back yard into a "Haunted Louisiana Mansion". The Dallas Light and Sound design crew, in collaboration with Jim Lee and his staff, transformed the front of the house, the bottom floor, back porch and a crystal tent pitched in the back yard into a Halloween wonderland.

From a truly spooky front entry with sinister blue lighting and lots of foggy haze, to a DJ Altar in the tent, guests were left gasping as they went from room to room. The transformation became complete as the sun set and guests arrived....with lighting effects and moody music welcoming revelers.

The evening turned up the volume as the lights came down and Dallas Light and Sound activated a special color changing lighting effect on a chandelier that DLS hung in the tent (as seen in this video.)

High end LED candles played a major role in creating the overall look, with dozens deployed to help create the overall ambiance for the party. The photos below show the difference that great special event lighting can make for the overall look of the party. The first picture shows what guests saw as they entered the crystal tent. The second was taken in broad daylight.

Jim Lee dressed his service staff in period costumes, brought in a medium for a seance, and a sketch artist to capture memories of the night. Serving a combination of Cajun and Asian themed food, the Jim Lee menu remained true to the  time period with Crayfish empanads accompanied by a very modern and delish sushi bar.

In addition to providing and installing decor, pipe and drape, staging and lighting in the tent, DLS created a beautifully lit transition space between the house and the tent. Notice the blue cobwebs shinging through the window from the inside of the house.

Coming soon to  Dallas Light and Sound on Facebook - a photo gallery from the event including more before and after pictures. http://www.facebook.com/dallaslightandsound

Mirror Balls in the Sky... at Ilume Halloween

These pictures are from an over-the-top special event held to celebrate Halloween at the mixed use residential community Ilume. Jagermeister and Pinnacle Vodka sonsored the event. Dallas Light and Sound provided both lighting and sound for the night. The first image is of the bar area in an early, pre-party state. It's looking great with mirror balls spinning, waiting to welcome revelers. Notice the giant bottles, a great branding strategy from Jager.

With the assistance of Ilume staff  DLS suspended a mirror ball three stories in the air over the pool and created a stunning light show for the entertainment and costume contest. Dual spotlights added energy and unique effects to the show. In the picture above, a white spot overlays an orange spot to bring focus to the performer. The interior couryard walls benefitted from a swirling diamond lighting effect. Uplighting in orange at both ends of the pool  rounded out the overall look and complimented freshly instaled seasonal color in the Ilume flowerbeds.

Watch for additional pictures from this event in our Ilume Halloween special event photo gallery, coming soon to the Dallas Light and Sound page on Facebook. http://www.facebook.com/dallaslightandsound

BoConcept hosts HGTV Design Star Leslie Ezelle at Komen fundraiser

Leslie Ezelle
Artist, Designer & Breast Cancer Survivor
BoConcept, at their Dallas showroom located in the Design District, hosted a fundraiser on October 14th with all proceeds benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation - Dallas County. The event featured HGTV Design Star Leslie Ezelle and local celebrity chef Kent Rathbun..... and Dallas Light and Sound was there! Event designer Craig Canant created a stunning design, including pink carpet entry, store entrance uplighting, and lighting of a temporary installation of an enormous sculpture created by Ezelle that is now touring the nation.

Ezelle feels a close connection to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. This beautiful 43-year-old former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader fought a two-year battle with breast cancer. During her illness she endured six weeks of radiation, six serious infections, and six surgeries. Simultaneously, she and her family struggled with financial problems in the wake of the stock market crash. Miraculously, four months after her final surgery, she auditioned for HGTV's "Design Star" and made the cast.... and an indelible impression on viewers. Ezelle is a designer, artist, sculptor, mother, wife, survivor of breast cancer, and fundraiser for causes she believes in!

In the photo at left, a crane prepares to lift the Ezelle sculpture out of a park area located across the street from the BoConcept showroom. The sculpture occupied a principal role as one of the highlights for patrons at the event. Dallas Light and Sound washed the sculpture in pink light in observance of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation's work, raising funds to defeat Breast Cancer. The sculpture, which was on loan from Ezelle's private collection, departed Dallas immediately following the event and will appear at other events across the nation. Ezelle's "Bra Scuplture" reflects both her struggle with and triumph over breast cancer, and serves as a larger than life reminder that the fight continues.

The "Design For A Cure" attracted hundreds and was widely covered in Dallas media, making several lists of recommended and best events to attend that Friday. Pre-event coverage appeared on the website supporting DHome Magaine

http://dhome.dmagazine.com/2011/10/design-for-a-cure-at-boconcept-this-friday/

and appeared prominently on the list of Best Things to Do this Weekend at the Dallas Observer.

Ezelle served as Honorary Race Chair for the Komen Dallas Race for A Cure.

Emmy Winner Leslie Jordan - One Man Show in Dallas

It was a pleasure providing audio, lighting, stage design and event production services for a private event featuring Emmy Award winner Leslie Jordan.   Both gracious and hilarious, Leslie Jordan flew into Dallas on Saturday, October 15th fresh from filming an episode on the set of Desperate Housewives, and presented his raucous one man show to an appreciative audience.   Following his performance, Jordan conducted a book and dvd signing behind red velvet ropes and visited one on one with his fans at length.

Jordan spoke about his life for nearly an hour, a whirlwind and veritable tour de force on the stage as he regaled the audience with funny, and often touching stories. His no holds barred style of comedy resonates with audiences who know the truth when they hear it, and who aren't afraid to laugh at themselves.

Whether recounting his exploits on the set of Will and Grace as Beverly Leslie, or telling family stories involving his twin sisters, the audience thoroughly enjoyed the evening. As the evening grew later, Jordan recounted some never before told stories that were not for the faint of heart.

If your organization is bringing star power to North Texas, consider calling Dallas Light & Sound at 214-943-4238 for event production services for your next public or private event. Our talented team of event professionals are adept at working with talent, including fetching iced tea when the star of the show insists he might "perish from thirst without a drink of cold iced tea." Leslie Jordan you make us laugh in the best way. Welcome back to Dallas!
